Mysuru: Members of Chamundibetta Ulisi Horata Samiti have urged the state and Central governments to stop the construction and other development works undertaken under the Union government sponsored Prasada scheme.
They said such activities threatened the ecology and environment at Chamundi Hills. Samiti members Kalachannegowda, former mayor Bhyrappa, Leela Venkatesh, Gantaiah and Leela Shivakumar have unitedly urged to stop concretization activities initiated atop the hills as such activities allow rain water to flow downstream and also cause landslides. They also opposed the government authorities for fixing railings to Chamundi hills steps.
They appealed to the state government to constitute Chamundi Hills Development Authority on the lines of Male Mahadeshwara Hills Development Authority for its overall administration and development besides to avoid noise and air pollution by introducing electric buses and restricting the entry of private vehicles atop the hills.
The Samiti also demanded that the government raze all illegal structures besides clear encroachments for effective implementation of water conservation, rain water harvesting, encourage the improvement of greenery, and avoid the usage of plastic atop the hills.
The Samiti members have also welcomed the state government for its decision to scrap the ropeway project it planned to introduce.
