Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): A three-day drama festival began with Kabir, based on the 15th century poet, at Shaheed Bhavan in the city on Friday. Ekjute Theatre and Welfare Samiti, Bhopal, organised the fest in association with the ministry of culture.
Directed and conceptualised by Sanjay Mehta, the play was presented by artistes of Rangshirsh Theatre group, Bhopal. The play is based on a novel by Rangeya Raghav.
In the play, Kabir’s son Kamal narrates the story of his father after his parents die. The story begins from the ghats of Haridwar, when Kashi's weaver arrives at Kamal Ghat and becomes a victim of the wrath of the pundits.
Sanjay Mehta as Kabir, Ranjana Tiwari as Kabir’s wife Loi and Mohammed Faizan as Kamal were in lead roles. Mehta acted in the play despite having a fever. The show had a ticket of Rs 20 but it was not mandatory. As many as 68 theatre buffs watched the play after taking tickets. The play, Chhahur, directed by Yogesh Tiwari will be staged on Saturday.
