K-pop singer and member of GOT7 Choi Young-jae, who goes by the mononym Youngjae, has tested positive for COVID-19 just days before his first concert tour as a solo artiste. He's slated to perform in Bangkok on Jul 16 and 17, in Manila on Jul 23 and in Singapore on Jul 31.
While the 26-year-old's activities as a radio DJ have been temporarily suspended, it’s unclear if the tour, promoting his latest album Sugar, will be affected. Tickets for his concerts in Bangkok and Manila are still on sale.
Meanwhile, Durian Entertainment, the event organiser for Youngjae’s concert in Singapore, has been drumming up hype for ticket sales, which are scheduled to start on Friday (8 Jul) afternoon.
If his tour dates are left unchanged, Singaporean fans can look forward to catching him perform live at the Sands Theatre in Marina Bay Sands on Jul 31.
His management agency Sublime Entertainment said in a statement on Thursday (Jul 7): “Our artiste, Youngjae from GOT7, has tested positive for COVID-19 this morning.
“He’s currently suspending all his activities, complying with the authorities’ quarantine guidelines and focusing on treatment and recovery. Today’s broadcast of MBC FM4U’s radio programme Close Friend will be hosted by Yerin (Youngjae’s label mate) in his place.
“The agency will prioritise our artiste’s health, do our best to ensure Youngjae’s treatment and recovery and thoroughly comply with the quarantine guidelines to ensure everyone’s safety.”
Youngjae has enjoyed renown both as part of the seven-member boy band GOT7 and on his own, with two albums, a series of features on K-drama soundtracks and a lead role in the musical Song To The Sun.
Outside of singing and hosting on radio, he’s also dabbled in acting as part of the main cast in Netflix’s sitcom So Not Worth It and Kakao TV’s romance drama Love And Wish.
Tickets to Youngjae's concert in Singapore will be available on Sistic and Marina Bay Sands’ websites from Jul 8 at 12pm.
