Newly elected 10 candidates of ruling and opposition parties to the state council on Friday took oath at the simple ceremony organised at Vidhan Bhavan. The Maharashtra Legislative Council deputy chairperson Neelam Gorhe administered the oath to them. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis were absent at the swearing-in function as they were attending a conference in the presence of union minister Nitin Gadkari.
The list of the 10 elected candidates who took the oath included Ramraje Nimbalkar, Eknath Khadse (NCP), Pravin Darekar, Ram Shinde, Shrikant Bharatiya, Uma Khapre and Prasad Lad (BJP), Sachin Ahir, Aamasha Padvi (Shiv Sena) and Bhai Jagtap (Congress). They were elected on June 20. There were 11 nominees in the fray. The Congress, which is the ally of Shiv Sena and NCP, had fielded two candidates of which Jagtap won but the first candidate Chandrakant Handore faced humiliating defeat after seven-party legislators allegedly indulged in cross-voting.
