BHOPAL (Madhya Pradesh): Voting for the third and final phase of panchayat elections in 6607 gram panchayats of 92 districts in 39 districts of the state is underway from 7 am today.
Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and his family members exercised their franchise in their hometown in Jait which is in the Sehore district. The first from the family to cast vote was the younger son, followed by the elder son and CM.
Panchayat of Jait village has been declared as ‘Samras Panchayat’ where all the Panch and Sarpanch have been elected unopposed unanimously. The election of members from ward number-13 of Budhni Janpad Panchayat from village Jait has also been done unopposed. Voting is being held today only for the election of the candidate of ward number-14 of the district panchayat. The Chief Minister voted only for the election of the Zila Panchayat member.
Voting has started in 6,607 gram panchayats of 92 districts in 39 districts of the state from 7 am today. In the last phase, 1 crore 13 lakh 11 thousand 479 voters will choose their local government. Panch, Sarpanch, Janpad, and Zila Panchayat members are being elected. Voting will be held till 3 pm.
Counting will start after voting concludes. Strict security arrangements have been made for the police in the third phase of elections as well. The duty of 40 thousand policemen has been imposed at the polling booths. Voting was on in a total of 20,608 polling booths. Of these, 3,059 booths have been declared sensitive.
