The NSE Nifty index ended the session 87.7 points up at 16220.6, while BSE Sensex rose 303.38 points to 54481.84.
In the Nifty index, Larsen & Toubro Ltd.(up 4.74 per cent), .(up 2.94 per cent), .(up 2.48 per cent), .(up 2.31 per cent) and .(up 2.04 per cent) stood among the top gainers.
On the other hand, .(down 1.67 per cent), .(down 1.62 per cent), .(down 1.57 per cent), .(down 1.52 per cent) and .(down 1.46 per cent) were among the top losers of the day.
