Volvo Trucks’ unveiling of a hydrogen-powered vehicle with a maximum range of 1,000km is an exciting milestone in the technology’s development. At a time when battery electric vehicles (BEVs) are rapidly gaining momentum—the International Energy Agency (IEA) estimates there are over 16.5 million BEVs on the road as of 2022, or triple 2018’s total—fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs) remain an underdeveloped technology.
