Kolkata: A youth from West Midnapore, who returned from Europe a couple of days back, has been admitted to a hospital in Kolkata with symptoms like monkeypox.
According to hospital sources, the sample has been sent to National Institute of Virology (NIV) in Pune for testing.
According to the state health department, since the student has returned from Europe without taking any risk the blood sample and fluid taken from the pox have been sent for testing.
According to Siddhartha Neogi, director of health services, since the report of the samples are awaited there is ‘no’ reason to panic.
“We are still awaiting the reports from the lab in Pune. The case of monkeypox can be determined only after the report comes. The student is currently kept in isolation and is under constant observation. His family members are also asked to be alert,” said Neogi.
The director of the health services also mentioned that the family members of the student are also asked to report to the concerned hospital in case they develop similar symptoms.
