Kolkata: Ahead of NDA's Presidential candidate Droupadi Murmu's visit Kolkata to appeal for votes, BJP state president Sukanta Majumdar and Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari sent a letter to all Trinamool Congress MPs urging them to support her.
“Though Droupadi Murmu would win the polls, we urge support of the TMC MPs,” read a part of the letter.
Talking to the media, TMC MP Sougata Roy said that he rejected the letter.
“In the letter it is mentioned that their (BJP’s) candidate would win the polls. If they (BJP) are so much confident about their win then they should not seek support from anyone. I reject the letter,” said Roy.
Slamming Suvendu Adhikari, TMC state general secretary and spokesperson Kunal Ghosh said that Adhikari is practicing how to write a letter to TMC leaders.
“That day is not far when Suvendu Adhikari will write a letter to TMC leaders requesting to join back TMC. Just like he had given his signature in the letter sent today, soon he will send another letter with his signature for joining back,” mentioned Ghosh.
According to TMC sources, the TMC MPs might skip the first day of the monsoon session of the Parliament and along with the party MLAs would cast their vote for the Presidential election at the state Assembly.
On July 1, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that NDA Presidential candidate Droupadi Murmu has a ‘greater’ chance to win the poll.
She even mentioned that the next President of the Country could have been decided with consensus had the BJP discussed the name before the announcement.
