Kolkata: Newly appointed Assembly Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chairman Krishna Kalyani skipped the first PAC meeting stating that he was busy with his pre-scheduled work.

Talking to the media, Kalyani said that he will attend the next meeting scheduled on July 22.

When asked about which party he is in presently, he said since the matter is ‘subjudice’ the Calcutta High Court will decide.

“I have won the MLA seat from BJP ticket but in my heart I had always followed the ideology of TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee. Let the court decide on the same,” said Kalyani.

It can be noted that ending all speculation BJP Raiganj MLA Krishna Kalyani rejoined the ruling Trinamool Congress on October 27 last year under the presence of TMC secretary general Partha Chatterjee at Trinamool Bhawan.

According to sources, Krishna Kalyani couldn’t attend the PAC meeting as he was busy with the preparations of TMC’s Martyr’s Day on July 21.

Taking to Twitter, Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari said, “Mockery of Democracy. After Mukul Roy (unwillingly) was obligated to resign as PAC (Public Accounts Committee) Chairman; WB Legislative Assembly Speaker appointed Krishna Kalyani as Chairman, stating that the turncoat MLA is still with BJP. He isn't aware that Kalyani joined TMC.”

Posting a video where Kalyani was present in a Trinamool Congress programme along with Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) Mayor Firhad Hakim, Adhikari said, “It's a democratic convention to appoint the PAC Chairman from the Opposition party to keep tabs on Govt spending & accounts. There's no PAC Chairman from the ruling party in any Legislative Assembly across India. As of yesterday Krishna Kalyani was the convenor of a TMC meeting.”
