As many as 16 passengers were injured after a rashly driven truck rammed into the passenger bus from the rear end at Bijasan Ghat on the National Highway No 3 near Sendhwa. After the collision, both bus and truck overturned resulting in the blockading of one-side of the road.
According to information, the condition of eight passengers is said to be critical and they were referred to Barwani district hospital, while the remaining 14 passengers were admitted to Sendhwa civil hospital, where they are undergoing treatment.
At the time of the accident, the bus was moving from Sikar, Rajasthan to Pune and all the passengers were in deep sleep. Passengers who remained unhurt or got minor injuries were informed that the bus driver slowed down the vehicle since it was a speed breaker ahead.
At the same time, the truck laden with potatoes was at high speed and the driver failed to put a brake on his vehicle on the steep slope resulting in the truck ramming into the bus from the rear end. After the collision, both the vehicles overturned.
As the spot was situated about 16-km away from Sendhwa, passersby immediately informed Highway Ambulance, 108 Emergency Services as well as Sendhwa civil hospital to prepare for the emergency.
The employees of the highway company of the police have reached the spot. As the road to Mumbai was closed after the accident, highway company employees engaged heavy cranes to remove bus and truck from the road. In the meantime, traffic was diverted through another lane.
