BAGALKOT: Three persons were stabbed and some others injured in a clash between two groups of different communities in Kerur village on Wednesday evening.
A war allegedly broke out between two groups belonging to different communities at a bus stand over a petty issue that turned into a communal clash when both the warring parties tried to set a vegetable cart and a bike on fire.
"Three persons, including members from Hindu Jagaran Vedike, have sustained stab injuries. They have been shifted to a private hospital for treatment in Bagalkot and are said to be out of danger," said sources.
In the incident, some shops, a push cart of fruit vendors and a bike were set on fire by a group of miscreants in the market area.
However, SP Jayaprakash and other police officials went to the spot and brought the situation under control. Badami police have detained three persons for interrogation.
"At present, the situation is under control and peaceful in Kerur," said a senior police officer.
Besides, prohibitory orders under Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) Section 144 have been imposed in Kerur town till Friday and adequate security personnel have been deployed in the village as a precautionary measure.
District administration has announced a holiday for schools and colleges in Kerur on Thursday.
