The daily Covid cases doubled across Maharashtra on Tuesday, with 3,098 new infections recorded in the last 24 hours, as compared to 1,515 cases reported on July 4.
The total Covid count in the state has now increased to 79,89,909 cases so far. Meanwhile, six people succumbed to the deadly virus on Tuesday, taking the death toll to 1,47,749, to date.
On the other hand, the city witnessed a slight rise in Covid cases with 659 new cases and one Covid-related death being recorded on Tuesday, taking the total Covid tally to 11,16,131, with 19,620 deaths so far.
The doubling days jumped to 762 till July 5, while the weekly growth rate dropped to 0.88 per cent.
Dr Manjusha Agarwal, senior consultant – internal medicine at Global Hospital (Parel), said, “I have observed that the recent Covid positive patients are getting better in 48 to 72 hours. Nobody has required any remdesivir or immunotherapy. Patients are not having major complications.”
She added that it is evident that vaccination has helped everyone. “Even though the cases are rising, all those infected are getting better with home medication. Gradually, the intensity and the severity of colds is coming down. Hence there is no need to panic,” she said while asserting the need to wear masks and follow all Covid protocols.
“The only thing I would like to convey is to follow protocols even if the government has not made it mandatory,” added Dr Manjusha.
