Plant more trees to mitigate impact of climate change: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath

LUCKNOW/JHANSI: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said on Tuesday that more trees should be planted to mitigate the impact of climate change and for carbon sequestration.
Taking part in the plantation drive at the Matdar forest block in Chitrakoot, he said that this block should be preserved in its natural form as ‘Kodand Van’ (Lord Rama's bow and arrow is called Kodand and Chitrakoot bears a connection with Lord Ram).
In all, over 25 crore saplings were planted in the state on the inaugural day of the state government’s annual plantation drive Vriksharopan Janandolan, 2022 on Tuesday. The target was to plant 25 crore trees which was surpassed by 6pm on Tuesday.
The plantation drive was launched by Governor Anandiben Patel who planted a Trishakti formation -- Kadamb in the form of Mother Parvati, Neem in the form of Mother Durga and Mango in the form of Mother Saraswati -- at Kukrail forest in Lucknow.The governor called upon people to plant at least five saplings each. She said, “To make children aware about the importance of trees, Panchtantra Vatikas should be established. Books of nature’s songs and poems should be distributed in schools.”
