MYSURU: Mysuru city on Tuesday witnessed a political drama with Congress leaders led by party spokesperson M Lakshmana, Congress city president R Murthy, Congress district president BJ Vijay Kumar trying to take a procession along with pigs and donkeys to the MP office for a public debate on the development of Mysuru.
It may be recalled that Congress leaders had carried out a procession towards MP’s office for an open debate on May 29, which was countered by BJP through a protest by the youth wing. Simha had compared Congress leaders to pigs and donkeys, which resulted in another controversy.
Congress leaders tried to go in a procession towards Pratap Simha’s office at Jaladarshini. However, the police stopped them. They shouted slogans against Simha and BJP for their alleged false propaganda against Congress leaders including former CM Siddaramaiah.
“Between 2013 and 2018, Congress government spent Rs 22,000 crore on the development of Mysuru. We have documents to prove it. Let Simha come with proof of his works. We are not here for a fight, but for a healthy debate,” said Lakshmana.
“Varaha (pigs) was the royal symbol of Vijayanagara rulers. Simha was disrespectful to it. I called him eight times for a debate over the phone after the police detained me. The MP did not respond. We will take this issue to a logical end. We are ready for an online debate also. If he is not ready for a debate, let him issue a public apology,” said Lakshman.
