Bhubaneswar: The Bureau of Immigration has issued a lookout circular (LOC) against two men, who reportedly fled to Malaysia after allegedly cheating several job seekers in the state of nearly Rs 1 crore.
The bureau issued the LOC against Bhiku Bisoyi, a resident of Ganjam district, and Manikandan from Chennai on the basis of a request by the economic offences wing (EOW) of the state crime branch, which is investigating the job racket.
According to the EOW, Bisoyi and Manikandan identified themselves as directors of Kinney Infotech Private Limited with its head office in Kuala Lumpur. They had opened a branch office at Bhanjanagar in Ganjam district last year. The duo engaged several agents and assigned them to lure unemployed people to visit their branch office for jobs.
“The company offered a work and earn from home scheme. Unemployed people were asked to first deposit a certain security money with the company. The depositors were given some work from home assignments where they had to type several pages of Odia and English materials and submit the work to the company. After submitting the assignments in a few days, the depositors were paid good money (including the security deposits),” an EOW officer said.
After earning quick money from the easy work from home scheme, many people started depositing huge money with the company. The depositors were offered different types of easy assignments and projects and asked to complete the tasks in a certain time frame.
“Thousands of people invested money with the hope of getting good returns after completing the assignments given by the company. After collecting nearly Rs 1 crore, the company shut down its office in Bhanjanagar. Bisoyi and Manikandan became untraceable,” the officer said.
In January this year, one of the victims lodged a complaint with the Bhanjanagar police station. Subsequently, the police arrested four agents.
The economic offences wing took over the investigation from Bhanjanagar police in April.
“Though non-bailable warrants were issued by a court against Bisoyi and Manikandan, they are still at large. We strongly suspect the accused absconded to Malaysia,” the officer said.
