The NSE Nifty index ended the session 178.95 points up at 15989.8, while BSE Sensex rose 616.62 points to 53750.97.
In the Nifty index, .(up 4.76 per cent), .(up 4.52 per cent), .(up 4.37 per cent), .(up 4.03 per cent) and .(up 3.65 per cent) stood among the top gainers.
On the other hand, .(down 5.06 per cent), .(down 1.73 per cent), NTPC Ltd.(down 1.35 per cent), .(down 1.31 per cent) and .(down 1.25 per cent) were among the top losers of the day.
