BMC drive to lift abandoned vehicles off roads, public places

Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) will start a special drive to lift abandoned vehicles, which are parked along roads and also in public places, to streamline traffic movement, improve the city’s sanitation and beautification.
The BMC will take police’s help and paste notices on the abandoned vehicles, giving a week to the owners get them removed from public places. If they arenot removed within the given time, the civic body’s staff along with police will lift them using a tow vehicle.
“Abandoned vehicles remain parked for months along every major artery, lane and bylane here. It not only gives the city an ugly look, but also causes traffic congestion. Also, waste lies strewn under the vehicles, turning it into a den of mosquitoes. We will work together with police to destroy the mosquito breeding grounds. If after the issuance of notice, the vehicles’ owners claim them, they will not be lifted or seized,” BMC commissioner Vijay Kulange assured.
