COIMBATORE: More than 500 BJP members staged a hunger strike against the DMK government for failing to implement its poll promises, at Sivananda Colony in the city on Tuesday.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the protest, Coimbatore south MLA Vanathi Srinivasan claimed the law and order situation took an extreme beating after the DMK came to power. She also alleged the state is reporting several lockup deaths due to police excess.
“During the previous AIADMK regime, there were several welfare schemes like Thaalikku Thangam, Amma two-wheeler schemes for working women. But, the DMK, after coming to power, withdrew all these schemes. It also did not implement the poll promise to provide monthly aid to women.”
Talking about infrastructure in the city, she complained that several roads were in a bad condition, a nightmare for motorists, and urged the government to expedite the works mooted under the smart city mission. tnn
