Students hold a protest in front of the BJB Autonomous College on Tuesday
BHUBANESWAR: More than 100 inmates of the women's hostel of BJB Autonomous College where Ruchika Mohanty, a Plus III student, committed suicide because of "ragging" on July 2 have already been questioned. But police are yet to ascertain the identities of the three girls whom Mohanty had accused of harassing her in the suicide note purportedly written by her.
However, she had not named the trio in her note before hanging herself to death in her hostel room.
"We have not yet identified the three seniors. More than 100 students of the college, authorities of the institute and the hostel besides some of her friends in her village have already been questioned. We have recorded their statements and are working on some leads. We are hopeful of getting some solid clues soon," deputy commissioner of police Prateek Singh said.
Meanwhile, braving heavy rain, Mohanty's parents and members of a student's organisation continued their indefinite dharna outside the BJB college, demanding immediate arrest of those responsible for her death. "We will not move from here until the culprits are arrested. Immediate action should be taken against the college and hostel authorities as well," the deceased's parents, Bidulata Mohanty and Ganeswar Mohanty, said.
