Woman held for abetment to suicide

Ludhiana: The police have arrested a woman for abetment to suicide after her friend ended his life after being allegedly pressurised by her for marriage. The accused has been identified as Meenu of Raiya village in Koom Kalan.
In his police complaint, Gurmeet Singh of Raiya said his son Lovepreet Singh, 24, worked at a pesticide shop in the village and had developed friendship with Meenu about six months ago. He added that lately he had stopped communicating with her.
“On July 1, Meenu came to the shop where my son worked and started pressuring him to marry her. Upset with this, my son ended his life on July 3 by consuming a poisonous medicine. Meenu is already married,” he added.
Police have booked the accused under Section 306 of the IPC (abetment to suicide).
ASI Dharam Pal said after registering the case, police arrested the accused from Koom Kalan.
“The accused has two children who live with her husband, with whom she has matrimonial issues. She is around 35 years old,” he added.
