Oil Marketing Companies(OMCs)  on Wednesday increased the price of domestic 14.2 kg LPG cylinder 50/cylinder with effect from today. Domestic LPG cylinder will now cost 1053 in Delhi. 

In Mumbai, the price of a domestic LPG cylinder will now cost Rs1,052.50 instead of 1002.50 per cylinder. Whereas, in Kolkata, a consumer will have to shell out 1,079 instead of 1,029 for a 14-kg cylinder. At the same time a customer will have to spend 1068.50 instead of 1,058.50 in Chennai from today for a domestic cylinder.

The OMCs also 5kg domestic cylinder price increase by 18/cylinder. However the price of 19kg commercial cylinder prices decreased by 8.50. Earlier,the price of commercial LPG, used by hotels, restaurants and other business establishments, was cut by 198 per 19-kg cylinder on in line with softening international rates.

The new rates for 19 kg cylinder in the four metros will be 2012.50 in Delhi, in Kolkata 2132.00, in Mumbai 1972.50, in Chennai 2177.50. The hike comes on the back of a 3 on 19 May. Prior to that, prices were increased by 50 per cylinder on 7 May.

Meanwhile in the international market, oil prices rose as much as nearly 3% on Wednesday before paring some gains as investors piled back into the market after a heavy rout in the previous session, with supply concerns returning to the fore even as worries about a global recession linger.

Brent crude futures rose as much as $3.08, or 2.9%, to $105.85 a barrel in early trade after plunging 9.5% on Tuesday, the biggest daily drop since March. It was last up 92 cents, or 0.9%, at $103.69 a barrel at 0243 GMT.

India's petrol and diesel sales soared in June on the back of the start of cropping season, summer travels and overall pick up in economic activity, preliminary industry data showed.

Diesel,Which is the most-used fuel in the country, saw sales jumping 35.2 per cent year-on-year to 7.38 million tonnes in June. This was 10.5 per cent higher than sales in pre-pandemic June 2019 and 33.3 per cent more than June 2020. It was 11.5 per cent higher than 6.7 million tonnes of consumption during May this year.

Petrol sales by state-owned fuel retailers, which control roughly 90 per cent of the market, at 2.8 million tonnes in June were 29 per cent higher than the same period last year when a devastating second COVID-19 wave wreaked havoc on the economy.
