Gurgaon: Residents woke up to a warm and humid weather on Tuesday even though the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted moderate showers in the city. The maximum temperature climbed to three degrees in the past 24 hours from Monday’s 34.3 degrees Celsius to 37.5 degrees Celsius, which is nearly normal for this time of the year.
However, the met department said that some relief is in sight with temperature likely to fall in the next 24 hours as the monsoon activity is likely to strengthen over the region from Wednesday.
According to the IMD, the low pressure area now lies over central parts of Madhya Pradesh and its neighbourhood and a cyclonic circulation lies over northwest Bay of Bengal and its neighbourhood. “Under the influence of these systems, the rainfall activities are likely to increase over the state on Wednesday night and continue till Saturday with light-to-moderate having 20-40 mm rainfall likely at many places, including Gurgaon. Isolated heavy showers are also possible in northern Haryana between July 7 and 9. This spell is likely to be accompanied by thunderstorm and lightning. The maximum temperature is likely to fall by 3-4 degrees from Thursday onwards,” Manmohan Singh, director, IMD Chandigarh.
The minimum temperature soared by over two degrees and settled at 28 degrees Celsius on Tuesday. The relative humidity index oscillated between 70% and 83%.
The city’s air quality index deteriorated and slipped to poor category on Tuesday. The AQI reading was at 219.
