Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Video Surveillance System (VSS) will be installed in 15 stations under West Central Railway (WCR) which includes Bina, Rani Kamalapati (Bhopal), Hoshangabad, Vidisha, Pipariya, Jabalpur, Katni, Maihar, Satna, Rewa, Damoh and Sagar of Jabalpur division and Bharatpur, Sowai Madhopur and Kota railway stations of Kota division.
This will provide some kind of additional help to the Railway Protection Force (RPF) officers in ensuring better security. The recording of the video feed received from CCTV cameras can be stored for 30 days, according to railway officials. The work is likely to be completed by January 2023.
RailTel, a Central Public Sector Undertaking (CPSU), has been entrusted with the implementation of an important project of Indian Railways (IR), in which the work of installation of Video Surveillance System (VSS) (a network of CCTV cameras) at railway stations has been initiated.
In order to enhance security at railway stations, Indian Railways is in the process of installing Internet Protocol (IP) based Video Surveillance System at stations including waiting rooms, reservation counters, parking areas, main entry/exit, platforms, foot over bridges (FOB), booking office etc. will be included.
CCTV cameras and video feeds installed at stations will be monitored at the 3 levels to ensure enhanced safety and security of railway premises. The system is powered by Artificial Intelligence (AI) enabled video analytics software and facial recognition software, which will help in detecting well-known criminals when they enter station premises.
A Network Management System (NMS) has also been provided for monitoring of cameras, servers, UPS and switches which can be viewed by any authorised officer through any web browser. 4 types of IP cameras (Dome Type, Bullet Type, Pan Tilt Zoom Type and Ultra HD-4K) are being installed to ensure maximum coverage within railway premises, the officials added.
