Woman kills husband with sickle

Mangaluru: A woman allegedly killed her husband on Tuesday, assaulting him on the head with a sickle at home at Abbankere in Navoor village.
The deceased is 60-year-old Yohanan. alias Baby.
The police said Eliyamma, the 56-year-old wife, is mentally disturbed and reportedly under treatment.
A case has been registered at Belthangady police station.
4 arrested for stealing pepper
Bellare police on Monday arrested four persons and seized from them 10 gunny bags of pepper, wieghing 250 kg that would be worth over Rs 1 lakh. The arrested were identified by the police as Manju B, Praveen, Pavan Kumar from Sullia and Abdul Bashith from Kolthige in Puttur. According to the police, the pepper was stolen from a godown in the farm belonging to Mohammed Shafi in Kolthige village between June 15 and July 3. The police have seized the stolen pepper from the house of Pavan Kumar and seized the vehicle used for transporting it. Another accused, believed to be a minor, is untraceable.
Two arrested for killing Python
The officials from the Puttur sub-division have arrested two people for allegedly killing a python after capturing it and tying it to a door of a building at Kolthige village. Dhananjaya, 38, and Jaya, 38, from Shediguri in Kolthige, are the two suspects. The duo caught the python that had come near their house. They tied it to the lock of the door of the building. The animal eventually died.
Killing a python is a non-bailable offence under the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972. The forest officials in the Mangaluru forest division, under the guidance of DCF Dinesh Kumar and Puttur sub-division ACF VP Kariappa, arrested the duo. The duo has been remanded in judicial custody till July 15.
