GURUGRAM: The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) is planning the construction of a master road for Manesar sectors 1 and 1A, which will ease commuting in the area.
According to the authority, the project was planned following demands from residents of the two sectors, which house several gated societies, schools, and hotels.
The project came up for discussion at a meeting of the Core Planning Cell (CPC) last month. Officials had revealed at the meeting that the total length of the road would be nearly 722 metres, of which land for 492 metres was already clear for the work. The status of the land for the remaining 230 metres was pending examination at the time. Officials had then also agreed to work towards preparing a detailed project report (DPR) for the entire stretch and start construction once the total land was available.
On Monday, officials said the DPR is now ready, and a bulk of the land required for the project has already been acquired. “We have completed land demarcation for 722 metres of the road and prepared the DPR. The land is available in three parcels; the only issue is that its width is lesser than required for the road in some places. However, for now, we will be making the road on the available land,” said a senior GMDA official.
The DPR has received approval, and the authority will soon float the tenders, said the official, adding that the work will get allotted after that so construction can commence.
Residents who have been suffering due to poor road connectivity have welcomed the project.
“The planning of this project is a good sign. While other parts of Gurugram tend to get attention more easily, Manesar sometimes gets ignored. This one project is hopefully the first of many more to come,” said Nivedita Anand, resident, Sector 2, Manesar. “I only request the authorities to take up this project on priority and ensure it gets completed at the earliest instead of remaining on paper,” she added.
