THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Health minister Veena George said that Rs 1.5 crore was sanctioned to various medical college hospitals to augment organ transplant surgery facilities.
Thiruvananthapuram medical college will be given Rs 55 lakh, Kottayam Rs 50 lakh and Kozhikode Rs 45 lakh. The additional funds were sanctioned so that more organ transplant surgeries can be done with better facilities, she said.
Steps are being taken to set up liver transplant surgeries in government medical colleges. Already, Kottayam medical college has done a liver transplant surgery and the facility is available at Thiruvananthapuram medical college and the doctors have also been trained. Now, steps are underway to set up a similar facility at Kozhikode medical college, she said.
The funds will be utilized to purchase ten ICU beds, ventilators, multi parameter monitors, portable ABG analyser machine and surgical equipment for Thiruvananthapuram MCH.
