Sea erosion was reported in many parts, including Ullal in DK and Kundapur and Maravanthe beaches in the Udupi district. Roads are flooded with rain water causing traffic disruption in several places.

Rivers have also swollen due to the downpour, inundating agricultural fields and low-lying areas.

The water level in the Uppoor river has crossed the danger mark and artificial flooding due to a lack of proper drainage system has been reported in parts of Udupi, Manipal, Malpe, Peram and Parkala.

Earlier in the day, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said rescue works have been taken up on priority and directions have been issued to take up relief work immediately as heavy rains continued to disrupt normal life in coastal areas and Malnad region of the state.

"I have held discussions with Deputy Commissioners of rain-affected districts. Rescue works are on and I have directed the officials to take up relief work. Because of heavy and incessant rains, houses and properties have been damaged in coastal districts and Kodagu. Rains are continuing as well," Bommai said.

IMD forecast

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), fairly widespread/widespread rainfall and thunderstorms or lightning with isolated heavy rainfall is very likely to occur in Karnataka for the next five days.

In addition to this, coastal Karnataka will see isolated very heavy rainfall on 7 and 8 July.
