JAIPUR: The NIA has arrested 30-year-old Udaipur resident Mohammad Mohsin, the fifth man to be taken into custody for the beheading of tailor Kanhaiya Lal Sahu in the Rajasthan city on June 28. Mohsin was produced before a special NIA court in Jaipur on Tuesday and sent to police custody till July 12.
Sources said Mohsin was picked up for allegedy helping Mohammad Gaus and Mohammad Riyaz, who were captured on the day of the crime when they were fleeing on a motorcycle through Rajsamand district, north of Udaipur.
Suspected “co-conspirators” Mohsin Khan and Asif were held later for allegedly reconnoitring the tailor’s shop.
“Mohsin’s name cropped up during questioning of the other four arrested men,” said an officer. He was said to be associated with a butcher’s shop in Udaipur. “The extent of his involvement in the murder will only be confirmed after interrogation,” the officer said.
Several more suspects are on the radar of investigation agencies. Investigators are poring over online activities of the accused, especially social media groups where they allegedly posted radical messages. They are trying to find out where the gruesome videos of Sahu’s beheading were uploaded first.
Gaus and Riyaz were held on the basis of one such video in which they admitted to killing Sahu for supporting ex-BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma’s controversial remarks against the Prophet. Investigators were also looking at the extent of influence online content of Pakistani radical groups had on the suspects, as it has been found that they used to watch such videos regularly.
