Amid the ongoing Goddess Kaali row, Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mahua Moitra has unfollowed the verified Twitter handle of the party after the Mamata Banerjee-led party distanced itself from her comments the controversy.
This came after the politician answered a question on the row over a poster that depicts an actor dressed up as Goddess Kaali smoking a cigarette. Currently, Moitra only follows West Bengal CM and party supremo Banerjee.
While speaking at the India Today Conclave East 2022 about the controversy, Moitra had said, "When you go to Sikkim, you will see that they offer whiskey to Goddess Kaali. But if you go to Uttar Pradesh, and if you tell them that you offer whiskey to the goddess as ‘prasad’, they will call it blasphemy."
TMC condemns Moitra's remarks
The TMC immediately condemned Moitra's remarks on Twitter. The tweet read, "The comments made by @MahuaMoitra at the #IndiaTodayConclaveEast2022 and her views expressed on Goddess Kali have been made in her personal capacity and are NOT ENDORSED BY THE PARTY in ANY MANNER OR FORM. All India Trinamool Congress strongly condemns such comments."
Goddess Kaali poster controversy
Filmmaker Leena Manimekalai's latest documentary's poster has ignited a fresh controversy. The poster depicts a woman dressed in the costume of Goddess Kaali and she is seen smoking a cigarette in the photo.
Along with her usual accouterments of trishul (trident), and sickle, the actor is also shown wielding LGBTQ community's pride flag.
