Once upon a time...Irfan Khan was a champion
NAGPUR: Irfan Khan, 32, a bodybuilder with many trophies in interstate competitions under his belt, was nabbed along with three others for a spate of burglaries in Mankapur locality over the last couple of months. Khan, who had been arrested earlier too, turned to burglary for money to support his bodybuilding expenses and his friendships outside marriage, said police.
Mankapur police, under senior inspector Vaijayanti Mandhawdhare and Zonal DCP Sandeep Pakhale, recovered valuables worth Rs24.82 lakh from Khan and his aides.
Apart from Khan, police have arrested his close aides Mohd Afsar Khan and Sayyed Naushad Ali for three burglaries detected by Mankapur police detection wing under assistant inspector Mangala Mokashe. Police have also arrested a bullion trader, Vikas Gupta, for buying the stolen gold from the burglars.
Police said Khan and his close aides were arrested following CCTV footage and call details analysis during investigations into the Rs16 lakh burglary at Palloti Nagar last month. “Afsar conducted recce and struck at houses he found locked for a day or two. This gang mostly struck at night,” said an official from Mankapur police station. “Though they have confessed to three offences, it’s possible they may have been involved in many more,” said the senior cop.
Khan and Ali would act as multi-tasking members of the gang, which would mostly splurge the booty on pleasure. Police have also seized two vehicles which were purchased from the money earned from the stolen booty.
