MOHALI: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a charge sheet against four people, including two Canada-based operatives of the proscribed Khalistan Tiger Force (KTF), in connection with an attack on Hindu priest Kamaldeep Sharma Phillaur in Punjab’s Jalandhar on January 31, 2021.
Those named in the charge sheet filed in a special NIA court in Mohali on Monday include Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a resident of Jalandhar but presently residing in Surrey, Canada; Arshdeep Singh, a resident of Moga, also said to be residing in Canada; Kamaljeet Sharma, a resident of Moga; and Ram Singh alias Sona, a resident of Ferozepur. The federal agency said investigation in the case revealed that the Canada-based accused had hatched a conspiracy to kill the priest to disturb peace and communal harmony in Punjab. The priest was shot at by Kamaljeet and Sona, now arrested, at Bhar Singh Pura village in Phillaur on the directions of Arshdeep, and was seriously injured in the attack.
An official said the case was first registered at Phillaur police station on January 31 last year and re-registered by the NIA on October 8. The official said after a thorough investigation, all the four accused were charge-sheeted under relevant sections of laws, including the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
