Bhind (Madhya Pradesh): In the first phase of urban body elections in the district, an incident of assault with voters has come to light in Ward 6 of Raun Municipal Council.

Tension prevailed in the area after the victim accused one BJP candidate's husband and his family members of assault. The victim also lodged a complaint with the Raun Police Station.

When contacted, the DSP Head Quarter Arvind Shah said that the incident took place at a distance of about 500 meters from the polling booth, which was reported to the police while the dispute was on. But by the time the police reached the spot, both the parties had disappeared from the spot. Further action will be taken after hearing from both the parties, said Arvind Shah.

The Incident:

Victim Ramji Lal Sharma is a voter of Raun Municipal Council Ward 6 who had gone to the polling booth at Government Middle School to cast his vote.

On his way back home, Sukhbir, husband of BJP candidate Preeti who is contesting from Ward 6, along with his family members entered into a brawl with Ramji and expressed his displeasure of Ramji not voting for Preeti.

The verbal spat soon turned violent and Sukhbir allegedly bashed Ramji. Ramji suffered serious injuries in the assault. He immediately reached the Raun police station and lodged a complaint about the incident.

The victim levied serious allegations on Sukhbir of continuously pressurizing him to cast votes in his favor.

"Even before the vote, 32 to 35 people came to my house to threaten me," alleged Ramji.
