The Taliban government has assured Afghan students about their return to India and said that they will ask the Indian government to facilitate the same.

The statement by the Taliban comes amid a meeting between Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi and Afghan students, during which the latter sought an early return to India and resumption of their classes.

Afghan students, who have been stranded in Afghanistan, are not able to attend offline classes in Indian universities primarily due to the denial of visas after the Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan.

In a series of tweets, Deputy Spokesperson of the Foreign Ministry of Afghanistan, Hafiz Zia Ahmad said that the students called on Muttaqi to support them in “resuming their suspended classes and issuing visas and travelling to India”.

“Calling Afghan students the country's assets, FM Muttaqi assured them that he would exert utmost efforts for the return of Afghan students to complete their studies. He added that addressing the Afghan students’ challenges was a priority for him, & to this end, he would task the relevant departments to raise the students' demands with the Indian embassy & find a resolution to their problems. To end, the students expressed gratitude to the Foreign Minister for meeting them, listening to their requests & pledging to address the challenges,” said the tweet by Hafiz Ahmad.

India had recently redeployed its Embassy officials as an earthquake hit Eastern Afghanistan killing hundreds of civilians which led to a humanitarian catastrophe in the country.
