Woman jumps into canal with 5-yr-old son, child dies

Vadodara: A 28-year-old woman was arrested by the Jarod police on Monday for causing the death of her five-year-old son. The accused Minakshi Baria had taken a plunge into the Narmada canal on Halol Road with her son Shreyas on Sunday. Some passers-by spotted the duo and rushed to help.
They pulled Minakshi out safely and then rescued the child as well. “But the boy died due to drowning. We have booked Minakshi and also arrested her,” said J K Baviskar, PSI, Jarod police station. The police said that Minakshi is married to Nilesh Baria who lives in Chhani area of the city. Shreyas has a twin sister. The cops said that on Sunday, Minakshi told her husband that she is taking Shreyas to buy him ice-cream.

“The woman headed towards the canal on Halol Road and jumped in it with her kid. We asked the husband about the reason behind her extreme step but he had no clue about why she attempted suicide,” Baviskar added.
