India aims to increase international students studying in its universities to 5 lakh from 50,000 by 2024, according to Dr Rajkumar Ranjan Singh, Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Education. Dr. Singh made the statement during an inaugural ceremony of International Faculty Development Programme (IFDP) of Chandigarh University.
As per the National Education Policy (NEP) The six-day event is being organised as a part of the Government of India’s initiative toward internationalisation of education efforts.
The IFDP, is the largest international faculty development programme in Asia . More than 123 professors from over 32 nations, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Germany, Spain, South Africa, Ireland, the United Arab Emirates, Poland, Denmark, Iran, Oman, the Philippines, Malaysia, Kenya, Bangladesh, and Nepal, will take part in it. They are experts in 27 different fields.
"With more than 100 Professors from 75 Universities of over 30 countries in attendance, I feel this Programme is a great opportunity for faculty as it will lead to their sensitisation about new concepts in teaching, enhance their skills and update them on latest developments in their field and research methodologies,” said Dr. Rajkumar
"This was one of the major concerns for Honourable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji and he has worked tirelessly to reverse the trend. Under his dynamic leadership, we are able to identify the gaps in the higher education, including the quality of education, irrelevant curriculum and the irrelevance of the courses vis-a-vis the future employability of students and we have decided to fix all of that with the National Education Policy, 2020 and its implementation," stated the Minister, who was the chief guest on the occasion.
