The baby is under intensive care
VADODARA: A four-month-old girl who was bitten by a dog in the Samta area of the city got 15-20 stitches on her head on Sunday night.
The incident occurred when the girl’s mother left the house for a few minutes to fetch water. A stray dog reportedly entered the house and bit the girl on the head. When the mother reached home, she saw the dog licking the girl’s head where it had bitten her.
She picked up the girl and rushed out of the house immediately. The girl Jahnavi Tailor was taken to the GMERS Hospital where her wounds were stitched. She was kept in an intensive care unit at the hospital, her father Ashish Tailor said.
Ashish pointed out that the doctors had to take 15 to 20 stitches to close the wound on the girl’s head. “She is stable but has been crying a lot after the incident. She must be in agony,” said Ashish.
Ashish pointed out that there were street dogs in the area where they lived. He added that after the incident some personnel had come to the area to check the situation there.
Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) medical officer (health) Dr Devesh Patel said that teams had gone to the area where the incident took place. “They could spot five dogs there, four of which have been sterilised. They are trying to rescue the fourth one and take it for sterilisation and vaccination,” he said.
As per the rules, the dogs cannot be relocated by the civic body. These are rescued, sterilised and vaccinated, but have to be released at the same place from where they are rescued.
