LUDHIANA: With Covid cases increasing, 5.9% of the active cases of Ludhiana are admitted to hospitals.
According to the Covid report of Monday, 10 patients of Ludhiana are in private facilities (hospitals). As the number of active cases is 170, patients in hospitals comprise 5.9% of them.
On July 1, the number of hospitalized Covid patients of Ludhiana was 7, which was the same next day and dropped to 6 on July 3.
Even as there were no patients of the district in hospitals on June 1, the number was 4 on June 14, which increased to 7 the next day. It dropped to 2 on June 18, increased to 6 by June 22 and was 7 on June 27.
On May 1 and April 1, there were no patients of Ludhiana in hospitals. On March 3, the figure was 8.
District epidemiologist Dr Sahil said, “The number of Ludhiana patients in hospitals is still very less. Majority of the other patients have mild infection or are asymptomatic and are so home isolated.”
“All the hospitalised patients have moderate symptoms,” said an official.
The health official advised people, especially those with comorbidities, to take precautions.
“I think most of these patients are those who have comorbidities like diabetes, hypertension, heart, kidney related diseases, among others. However, that doesn’t mean that we should take things lightly. Residents should follow Covid rules of wearing a mask, maintaining social distancing and avoiding crowded places,” said Dr Sunil Katyal, secretary of Punjab Indian Medical Association.
After many months, on July 1, a patient of the district was on a ventilator. On June 30, two patients from outside Ludhiana were on ventilators. Health department officials said they expect the number of cases to rise in the coming days and have made adequate arrangements.
