RAJKOT: You don’t need to have money in your pocket if you wish to donate it for a good purpose. An 81-year-old man of Bhavnagar every day goes to various offices and shops just to collect Re 1 or 2. His purpose is to donate this amount to the families of martyrs of the country.
Meet Rasik Mehta who was born in 1941 before independence who has great respect for the armed forces. His financial condition does not allow him to donate to the families of martyrs from his pocket but that doesn’t mean he won’t donate. He goes to various commercial buildings and shops in Bhavnagar, chant shlokas and request them to donate something in his dish. He doesn’t feel bad for anybody who does not donate and gives blessings to those who donate.
He collects this money and donates Rs 50 to 90 per month to a trust named Shahid Sainik Parivar sahay trust. One of the trustees of this trust Ashesh Trivedi told TOI that “We started this trust in 2017 and from 2019 this uncle Mehta regularly visits our trust and donate his collection. Now, many chartered accountants, doctors, shopkeepers know him and donate in his dish whenever he goes.” He also added that “Uncle’s amount is not big but the hard work to collect this donation is big.” The trust established in 2017 and till the date they have deposited around Rs 3 crore in the account of martyrs families.
