Sports & cultural meet begins

Thiruvananthapuram: The opening ceremony of the All India Sainik Schools South Zone Sports and Cultural Meet was held at Sainik School Kazhakkoottam on Monday.
Sainik School principal Col Dhirendra Kumar served as the chief guest for the event. As many as 432 participants from six Sainik Schools of the South Zone, including the host school, are taking part in this week-long event.
The ceremony commenced with a march past led by the school cadet adjutant. Competitions will be held in football, volleyball, basketball and hockey for the sports meet. The winners of the meet will be selected to represent the zone at the inter-zonal meet, which will be held later.
Apart from sports and games, competitions will also be held in literary events like English and Hindi debate, quiz, etc.
The closing ceremony of the meet will be held on Friday. Sports minister V Abdurahman will be the chief guest for the closing ceremony.
