COIMBATORE: Police have formed three special teams to nab advocate S P Rajendran in connection with the Chennai Hospital ransacking case. Rajendran arranged the hired goons for taking over the hospital at Gandhipuram on December 4 in 2020. After taking control of the hospital, the goons sent out patients and staff and ransacked it.
According to sources in the Crime Branch-CID (CB-CID) wing of the city police, Rajendran went into hiding two weeks ago. “Two special teams have been sent to Chennai and Kerala and another team is working from Coimbatore to find his whereabouts,” a police officer said.
Police have arrested 13 people, including Ellen Hospital managing director Dr P Ramachandran, 75, his associate Dr Kamaraj and 11 hired goons, in connection with the case so far.
Ramachandran had rented out his hospital building to Dr Umashankar, who opened Chennai Hospital there. Ramachandran alleged that Umashankar failed to pay rents to the tune of more than 1 crore and sent two notices regarding this. “Ramachandran feared that Umashankar could sell his shares of the hospital, and so he sent hired goons to take control of the building,” the officer said.
