Illicit liquor seizure: Cops to go to Bihar, Haryana

Ranchi: Police teams will be sent to Haryana and Bihar in connection with the seizure of 950 boxes of illicit liquor from a truck under the Khelgaon police station area in Ranchi on Saturday.
Five persons who were arrested in this connection are Navdeep Singh, drivers Jaswinder Singh, Gurucharan Singh, Sher Singh and Arun Paswan. Navdeep is also accused in 12 cases registered with different police stations of Uttar Pradesh. DSP Prabhat Ranjan Barwar said, "Teams will be sent to Haryana and Bihar to question other suspected persons involved in the racket and other aspects of the crime." Police said that the illicit liquor is generally supplied to Bihar, which has banned alcohol, from Chandigarh through Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand.
Rural SP Naushad Alam said, “Several manufacturing sites of illicit liquor, including at Pithoria and Ratu, were unearthed in Ranchi district in the recent past as well. The smugglers are mainly interested in supplying liquor to Bihar.” tnn
