GURUGRAM: The door-to-door waste collection in Manesar will start from July 15. The Municipal Corporation of Manesar (MCM) has allotted the work order to a private firm for collection, transportation and processing of waste. The firm has been directed to set up material recovery facilities (MRFs) and wet waste composting plants. Four sites have been identified in villages Bhangrola, Badha, Naurangpur and Manesar for the same.
The officials said that segregated waste will be collected from the first day of waste collection so that processing can be done at MRFs and composting plants set up by the private firm. “We allotted the work order last week to a private company. The company has been given the contract of collection, transportation and processing of waste as well. The work on the MRFs is going on at four sites. Each site has at least two acres of land available for MRFs and composting plants. The duration of the agreement is for one year,” said Praveen Dalal, executive engineer, MCM.
“Our emphasis is on waste segregation from the beginning so that the residents develop this habit of giving only segregated waste. Dry and wet waste will be collected separately and processed separately,” an official said.
“MCM will provide dry waste collection facilities to the highrises in the urban areas, which are basically bulk waste generators (BWGs). The BWGs, as per the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016, should have their own wet waste composting plants but MCM can also provide them a composting facility till the time they set up their own. The door-to-door waste collection can also be provided to the highrises, which want MCM to take up their waste collection services, for which they will have to pay a nominal monthly charge,” said an official privy to the matter.
