Bicholim: Chief minister Pramod Sawant surprised
students of Progress High School, Sanquelim, by paying them a visit and later joining them for the midday meal.
While interacting with the students, the chief minister asked them what they would like to eat in their midday meal. He also enquired about their midday diet and the quality of the meal provided by the school as it was their interval.
Sitting on a classroom bench, Sawant ate ‘mung usal’ with the children and asked them if they wanted anything else. Initially, a little confused with the chief minister’s visit, the children told Sawant that they can eat anything else but the addition is not compulsory.
He said he had casually visited the school to check and enquire about the midday meal. “Our aim is to ensure that the children get good quality food and that there are no shortcuts. We insist that the quality of the prescribed food be maintained and that the food should be good, fresh and hygienic,” the chief minister, who is also the Sanquelim MLA, said.
Sawant said that the midday meal scheme has been started since many students, especially from rural areas, leave their houses early in the morning on an empty stomach.
The chief minister further appreciated the work of the school’s management, teachers and parents for their efforts towards the bright future of the children.
