Ujjain (Madhya Pradesh): Collector and district returning officer Asheesh Singh has issued a notice to Congress’s mayoral candidate Mahesh Parmar for publishing an advertisement just a day before the polling in the Ujjain Municipal Corporation elections. An explanation has been sought from him within 24 hours.
The notice says that according to the State Election Commission model code of conduct bars display of election-related matters before the public through motion picture/electronic media or print media or any other means during a period of 48 hours after the campaign is over. The City Congress Committee published an advertisement in the print media on Tuesday for the mayoral candidate of Congress, Mahesh Parmar. This has been considered by the collector as a violation of the instructions of the Election Commission.
The returning officer has issued a notice to Parmar asking that on July 5, 2022, an advertisement for soliciting votes in the newspaper has been published on the main page, which comes under the category of offence under Section-126 of the ‘Representation of the People Act-1951’ and the ‘MP Local Authority (Election Offences) Act-1964 updated in 2014’.
