Indore (Madhya Pradesh): A team of officials of the Pollution Control Board of Sikkim state visited the city on Sunday for inspection of IMC’s work being done in solid waste management, garbage segregation and others.
IMC officials said Dr Thomas Kandy, chairman of the Pollution Control Board of Sikkim and administrative officers of the Sikkim Pollution Control Board, including Ashok Kumar Gurung, Bhim Bahadur Lakhe, and others comprised the team. They learned about solid waste management in the city and visited garbage segregation stations, the trenching ground at Devguradia, STP plant and the ICCC command centre at the AICTSL bus office.
Explaining the cleanliness system and campaigns in the city, additional commissioner Sandeep Soni made a presentation to the team. Giving detailed information about the cleanliness campaign of Indore through his presentation, Soni explained how, in the past, there used to be garbage bins everywhere.
He said IMC started running door-to-door garbage collection vehicles which are being monitored through a GPS system. All garbage collection vehicles have their designated routes and places chalked out. He told the team about how IMC had made the city ODF-free. Earlier, wet and dry waste was collected together. Now, six types of garbage are being collected and six bins have been installed.
Detailed information was given regarding the bag bank, utensil bank, disposal-free area, zero-waste event, zero-waste wedding, nullah cleaning campaign, nullah cricket, nullah medical check-up, nullah football, nullah dangal and other activities. He also told them about how the waste collected by door-to-door garbage collection vehicles was being transported to the Garbage Transfer Station and how the garbage is segregated before being processed in the plants at the trenching ground.
In the field of solid waste management, various types of processing are being followed, such as manure processing, bio-methanisation processing, energy-to-energy processing, city buses run on bio-CNG and others. The team appreciated IMC’s work.
