Mumbai: Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Rahul Narwekar on Sunday was elected as the Speaker of the Assembly in Maharashtra.
Narwekar is a BJP MLA from Mumbai's Colaba constituency. In the past, he has been associated with Shiv Sena and the Nationalist Congress Party. Here is all you need to know about the newly elected Assembly Speaker.
Rahul Narwekar is a South Bombay boy, he has been born and brought up in Colaba.
Ramraje Naik-Nimbalkar senior NCP, a legislator from NCP and chairman and speaker of the Maharashtra legislative council is the father-in-law of Narwekar.
He was a youth leader in Shiv Sena, later quit Sena and joined NCP in 2014.
He lost the 2014 Lok Sabha elections against a Shiv Sena candidate.
Just before the 2019 Assembly polls, Narvekar joined BJP. He contested from Colaba and defeated Congress candidate Ashok Jagtap.
