Uttar Pradesh: Elderly couple found murdered in their house in Agra

AGRA: An elderly couple— Suresh Chandra Gupta, 70 and his wife Krishna, 65, were found murdered at their residence in Agra’s Bah area on Sunday.
Police suspect theft to be the motive behind the murder as the couple’s belongings were strewn all over the house.
Their bodies were discovered by neighbours who suspected something wrong after they did not see the couple step out of their house till noon. Concerned, the neighbours entered the house, as its doors were open and they found Gupta and his wife dead. While Gupta, who owned an oil mill was found dead on his bed, his wife was lying on the floor.
SP (East) Somendra Meena told TOI that prima facie the couple was strangled to death as some marks were found around their necks. Clotted blood was also found on Gupta’s head and the bed too had some blood. The exact cause of death will be clear after the autopsy.
According to the neighbours, Gupta was last spotted by them at 7:30pm on Saturday after he had returned from his oil mill. Earlier in the day, he had gone to meet his son Mukesh, who lives with his family in the city. Gupta had a long dispute with his brothers over a property, said a local resident, adding that both his brothers stay in Delhi with their families.
Agitated shopkeepers of the area downed their shutters to protest against the murder and demanded the arrest of the accused. Police assured them to arrest the accused soon and have sent the bodies for post mortem. Cctv footage of the area is being scanned.
SSP Prabhakar Chaudhary who visited the crime spot said that it seems that some people entered the house and killed the couple and went through the victims’ belongings, which were strewn all over the house. Three teams have been formed to investigate the matter. All angles are being explored, he added.
The couple’s family has been informed and FIR will be registered on the basis of a complaint given by the victim’s family members.
