Thiruvananthapuram: The exhibition-cum-sale of over 200 books written by doctors across Kerala is underway at the Indian Medical Association (IMA), Thiruvananthapuram branch, in Anayara. The exhibition is being organized as part of celebrating the Doctors’ Day.
The story of Dr Shabeer M S is one among the literary works being exhibited. A part of his short story titled “Malayirakkam” describes one of the experiences he had as a government doctor.
He remembered the time when he had to attend Sabarimala duty and had to take mortuary duty on the next day. He was shocked to see that the person who was sitting next to him during his way back from Sabarimala was one among the dead bodies. His book’s cover page is a dead body.
The exhibition themes include physical and mental care, fictions, travelogues, biography, yoga, palliative care, cancer, food habits and food safety, cleanliness, snake bite and solutions, artificial organs, alcohol addiction, dental diseases, plastic surgeries and bone diseases are featured in the show.
“The exhibition focuses on creating a stress-free life for all doctors. This will bring doctors into the field of literature, which will help in sharing their knowledge and make them feel better. We are also planning to arrange a training camp for them with the help of renowned literary personalities. We have decided to release at least one book every month,” said IMA district president Prasanth C V.
The exhibition was inaugurated by writer George Onakkoor. According to him, this is the first book exhibition which only features the works created from the doctors’ community. This has also provided them the opportunity to showcase their works to the public.
The book fair, which is open from 10am to 5pm, will conclude on Sunday.
