COIMBATORE: Two unidentified women stole a five-day-old infant from the District Headquarters Hospital in Pollachi on early Sunday morning.
Coimbatore rural police have formed 10 special teams to trace the baby girl and arrest the two suspects.
Police said, Dhivyabharathi, 25, wife of
Yunus from Kumaran Nagar in Pollachi was admitted to the government hospital on June 27 for delivery and she gave birth to a baby girl around 2.58 am on June 29. The hospital doctors told her that she and her baby were ready to be discharged on Sunday morning. “I made her sleep after breastfeeding my daughter around 1 am on Sunday. I did not find my child around 5 am,” said Dhivyabharathi.
She also added that another mother at the maternity ward of the hospital, had seen two suspected women outside the ward. The mother took her child for a checkup early Sunday morning and returned to the ward. “She could not find my daughter on the bed,” said Dhivyabharathi.
Immediately, the hospital administration was alerted by Dhivyabharathi and she also launched a search at the maternity ward of the hospital. Pollachi police also reached the spot. E Chandra, Joint Director, Health services visited the hospital on Sunday morning and conducted an inquiry with the mother of the missing girl baby and the doctors of the hospital.
“There were no CCTV cameras surveillance in the new block of the hospital,” said Dhivyabharathi.
V Badrinarayanan, Superintendent of Police, Coimbatore district said that ten special teams were formed to nab the baby lifters. “Our police teams have collected the CCTV footage from other commercial establishments and the teams are working to trace the baby girl,” said Badrinarayanan.
Two Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) and three police inspectors were heading the investigation in connection with the case. The police confirmed that two unidentified women had taken away the baby girl. They are working to trace the identity of the baby lifters.
